Greetings Fellow Travelers,
The world’s attention has been turned on Vancouver with the upcoming Winter Games. The city has so many attractions and sights to see, but casual travelers are weary to head into the athletic chaos that is Vancouver for the next few months.
Guests are spending hundreds of dollars on event tickets and other expenses. I thought it would be fitting to make a list of activities that would be fun and are, more importantly, free! Here are the Top Eight:
8. Discover Lynn Canyon Park
Lynn Canyon Park is a fantastic way to see a large variety of nature. There is a suspension bridge that offers spectacular views of Lynn Canyon. This bridge hangs 20 stories above the creek below, and is not for those faint of heart. The rainforest is filled with hiking trails, which will eventually lead you to Twin Falls. Twin Falls is gorgeous and the gentle mist will wake you up no matter what time of day.
7. Have Lunch in Lighthouse Park
Lighthouse Park is Vancouver’s last remnant of beautiful, rugged rain forest. Most of the forests in the region were logged, but because of the lighthouse, these trees were spared. The trees provided the necessary black backdrop for the lighthouse to shine its light through. The forest trees are up to 200 feet tall and about 500 years old, and can often provide a nice canopy in the rain. I recommend packing a lunch, taking a seat and enjoying the natural beauty. There are also many hiking trails in the Lighthouse Park, but you need to wear good shoes, as they are not well groomed.
6. Hike the North Shore
If you are into hiking, then you will be in paradise on the terrain around
the North Shore. The North Shore is home
to dozens of hiking trails and very close to the city. The region is
mountainous, heavily wooded and has many rocky outcrops. It can be both
challenging and easy. This is a great opportunity for a rewarding
workout, while taking in all the stunning views and beautiful scenery. 5. Sea to Sky Highway
The Sea to Sky Highway or Highway 99 is a beautiful drive, weaving about the Rocky Mountains. It is as scenic as it gets from the seat of a car. Watch as the unending mountains and the calm pools of water roll by. See the small towns and cities sprinkled about. If you like driving, then this is for you. This highway has gone through much improvement to prepare for the Winter Games. As the games approach this highway will become busier and busier, but you won’t mind the traffic because there is so much to look at.4. Visit the Capilano Salmon Hatchery
The Capilano Salmon Hatchery is located just minutes from downtown Vancouver. The Capilano River was dammed over 100 years ago, which supplies almost half of Vancouver’s water supply. Unfortunately, the dam blocked the route of Salmon swimming upstream to spawn. To address this issue, the government built the hatchery, to allow the Salmon to spawn below the dam. In addition to helping the Salmon population, the hatchery also acts as a public education centre and is a great opportunity to learn more about the natural ecosystem that Vancouver is a part of.3. Walk the Shoreline Art Tour
Vancouver’s waterfront is scattered with public art instillation. Take a self-guided tour of the shoreline and see what local treasures you can find. It’s a fun way to get out and explore another part of Vancouver. I recommend going early in the morning, as many of the instillation look better in the morning sun!2. Check Out Granville Island
Granville Island is where the action is! What used to be an old, run-down industrial park has been transformed into a public market, shops, restaurants, theatres, an art school and much more. To me, Granville Island is homey and really gives the bustling metropolis of Vancouver, a sense of community. There is so much to see and do on Granville Island. This is a must see!
1. Visit Stanley Park
Stanley Park is a massive urban park located adjacent to downtown Vancouver. If you flew into Vancouver, you definitely noticed the giant green thumb that is Stanley Park, from your window. Trekking into the park can fill a whole day. There are miles and miles of trails in the park giving tourists and locals reason to come back again and again. There is also a five mile seawall path that circles the park which is great for dog walking, cycling, jogging and inline skating.

Vancouver has activities for everyone, from the outdoor enthusist to the leisurely stroller. Hiking, biking, boating — Vancouver has it all.
Biking in Vancouver is a great year-round activity. Rent a bike and explore Vancouver's natural beauty.

Bought this for my husband as a Christmas present. I ended up giving it to him early because he had a very important business trip, and I wanted him to look his
best. He absolutely loved it! He loves the large face, and the weight of the watch. It looks so classy
and sophisticated. It added the perfect frosting on my already gorgeous husband!
