Announcing iStopOver for Ages 50 and Above

In growing iStopOver, we have found that there is significant interest in “commonality” between our Hosts and our Guests. Our Guest members want to “stop over” with someone they are comfortable with, and our Hosts want someone they are comfortable with staying in their home. We will be launching iStopOver aimed at different interest groups over the next while, and we are starting by launching “iStopOver for Ages 50 and Beyond”.

Our research has shown that, as the “Boomer” generation is aging, they are traveling more and more.  The retired community has more time on its hands, and is looking for an economical, and “less hotel-like” way of traveling. As a result, many of our members are in this community of  “50 plus”.

iStopOver for Ages 50 and Beyond caters specifically to the needs of the mature traveler. We help you find accommodation that works for you. That means according to your budget; the location you want (often near family, in a specific location, or just a landmark on vacation); with the facilities you want (such as where you can make your own meals, or with parking, or with no stairs to climb or wheel-chair access); or, for a longer period of time than a few days.

Let us know what you think? If you have specific requests, email us at info@istopover. If you have some good ideas for growing this community we’d love to hear from you.

We look forward to working with this exciting community.

-------------------------------------------

And, as a member of the “Age 50 and Beyond” community myself, I find we have an ability to laugh at ourselves. I (as an Internet startup founder) am VERY comfortable with technology and love every gadget I can get hold of. But some of my associates (and family) are less comfortable. I received the following email recently from one of the “less technical” and thought it funny enough to share:

FOR A GOOD LAUGH …. This is for the non-techie over 50 generation:

“I thought about the 30 year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a Blackberry that played music, took videos, pictures and communicated with Facebook and Twitter.

I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, 13 grandkids and 2 great grandkids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree, Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something that sends every message to my cell phone and every other program within the texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife as everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. Seems I have to take my hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dashboard, but the lady inside was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-ul-ating".  You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then when I would make a right turn instead, it was not good.

When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I can lose three phones all at once and have run around digging under chair cushions and checking bathrooms and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused, but I never remember to take them in with me.

Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual."  Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look.

I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do toot a lot."

 PS
I know some of you are not over 50;  I sent it to you to allow you to forward it to those who are.

Congratulations to Spain- 2010 World Cup Champions!

The 2010 Fifa World Cup has been an incredible journey for all of us at iStopOver and it’s with mixed emotions now that the tournament is over. We’ve had an awesome time getting to know our thousands of Hosts and have enjoyed the South African warmth and humour. We really are proud to have been associated with such a successful tournament.

We wanted to share some feedback we’ve received from Hosts and Guests alike:

Host (lynne) Guest (redandblue92):  WOW! I am so impressed with istopover. you guys are great. I have already had 2 different guests from different parts of the world. They have been a pleasure to have in my home. Thank you too to istopover for assisting promptly with queries.

Mike and Lynne Thompson.Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Host (bevkins) Guest (eddie5): The istopover experience was truly great: I followed the suggestions, got suitable guests, got paid fast - catering to the needs of the guests was great fun and definitely an experience I'd like to repeat.

Host (h2h2) Guest (mudhai)  MY GUEST WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. We had fun together, and she appreciated the hospitality. She also commended istopover as the best way to find accommodation.

Guest (travelsaras) I stayed for several days at this place during the worldcup. I felt like I was at home for these 2 days, with our gracious Host helping to get to the stadium and getting to know the people of South Africa within this short time. Thanks, will visit again with my family.

Watch this space for announcements on new verticals we’ll be releasing soon- and our plans for South Africa post World Cup!

Warm Regards,

The Team at iStopOver.com

WorldCup 2010 is almost here!

The World Cup is almost here! We’re all very excited and can’t wait for June 11th. South Africa vs. Mexico will be the official start to what promises to be an unbelievable event. We’re truly proud that we’ve had the privilege to be involved in some small way with this fantastic event-and especially one that will hopefully bring great things for South Africa’s future.

We have had an incredible response with thousands of booking from Guests all over the world, alongside thousands of listings all through South Africa. We though it would slow down with the event so close, but we are getting LOTS of last minute reservations. And all indications are that we will get lots of reservations right through to the end of the World Cup in mid-July!

A few last minute tips and thoughts….

Travel Insurance

iStopOver is proud to offer our Guests outstanding insurance coverage through our partners at WorldNomads.

The last thing you want to do is to go to the World Cup unprepared. By purchasing travel insurance that is simple and flexible you’ll be rest assured that in any eventuality you’ll be covered and taken care of.

While it’s important to read the small print on any policy, we feel we are partnering with the best insurance company available, the same company recommended by Lonely Planet and National Geographic!

Each providing great cover, premium 24 / 7 emergency assistance and the highest levels of customer support and claims management.

The insurance is focused on what is really important: medical & emergency evacuation although it also covers other areas such as your baggage, cancellation costs, dental and liability depending on your country of residence.

We want to be sure that you have a great trip, and we hope none of us ever need travel insurance, but just in case, check out www.istopover.com/worldcup2010/insurance

Dear iStopOver

Thanks for the email this morning.  I thought I would show you the photos from our "COUNT DOWN TO THE WORLD CUP SOCCER PARTY."

Through your website I will be hosting Four Mexican Journalists during the World Cup.

We are so excited and counting the days until they arrive.

We have bought them Vuvuzelas and flags and will be having ANOTHER welcome party when they arrive.

Check out the cake - it was Table Mountain in Cape Town with the soccer players below it!

The FIFA World Cup comes to Canada!

by Anthony Lipschitz

Yest
erday I had the privilege of attending a VIP Fifa World Cup Trophy Tour event sponsored by Coca Cola here in Toronto, Canada.

Sc04564eb3

iStopOver's Anthony Lipschitz with the World Cup !!!

We got to see the amazing artist K’naan and his band perform the official World Cup song- Wavin’ Flag –as well as other great songs from his album. They were fantastic and inspirational. I’m sure their song(s) will add much to the atmosphere at all the games during the tournament.

Unfortunately the great Cameroonian international and legend-Roger Milla- was not well and was unable to attend as scheduled. I was looking forward to seeing the man in the flesh-who can forget his famous goal celebrations from Italia ’90?

And then the opportunity I’ve dreamt about my whole life came…a chance to see the World Cup trophy itself up close and personal! Ok, if I’m being 100% honest, my dreams really included me holding it aloft, tears of happiness streaming down my face, while the millions of adoring fans screamed in ecstasy as their hero lofted the almighty World Cup in triumph...

Still, having the chance to stand next to the trophy of my dreams was a pretty cool experience none-the-less.

The World Cup is almost here, with June 11th getting closer and closer. iStopOver continues to find fantastic, affordable accommodation for people from all over the world who will be lucky enough to attend the World Cup in South Africa.

After yesterday, seeing the trophy and feeling the vibe and energy here in Canada, I’m even more convinced that this year’s tournament will be the best ever, and that  our wonderful iStopOver Hosts in South Africa will play a big part in the tournaments success.

Lots of Activity at iStopOver

If you have been following all the activities at iStopOver, you will notice that we have recently been really busy.

The website has a huge amount of traffic from Hosts and Guests worldwide, who are discovering more about iStopOver and our unique service. We continue to attract great listings in more and more locations on our “Home” site, and we remain thrilled with the response on our World Cup site.

Some interesting pieces of information:

- World Cup

Unbelievably, more than 27,500 messages have now been sent between Hosts and Guests on our World Cup site !! The iStopOver “system” encourages our Guests and Hosts to communicate with each other, and it is amazing to see so many messages pass through the system.

We continue to introduce many soccer fans looking for the best accommodation in South Africa to great homeowners in South Africa. Well-priced listings with great photos and descriptions are being booked at a rapid rate.

As the start of the World Cup draws nearer, new Hosts are listing properties, and bookings continue. If anyone needs any assistance, please contact our support group at info@istopover.com. We have a superb team ready to help.

Last week, we received a fantastic mention in the South African “Sunday Times”. It seems that the iStopOver system is much more popular than other alternatives. We remain confident that this is, a) because we market listings to soccer fans worldwide; b) we have the best listings in South Africa; and c) our system is trusted as the market leader.

- The iStopOver website.

We have introduced some improvements and changes that our Guests and Hosts have asked for:

1) You can now “bookmark” a listing. Simply click the “add to bookmarks” star when you are looking at any listing, and you can find it again from the “My Account” tab.

2) In the next short while, we will make it very easy for you to email a link to a listing – so you can easily share a link with your friends, family or fellow travelers. You will also be able to post a link to a listing on Facebook, Twitter and Craigslist.

3) Now that the Vancouver Olympics are over, we are moving Vancouver listings to the “Home” site. Stand by for new iStopOver sites that will launch soon. We have had many requests for iStopOver “vertical” sites – including events all over the world and special interest groups of every type. Please let us know of any site you would like to see on iStopOver – send us an email to info@istopover.com

- More and more coverage

We remain thrilled by the email, press, blog and print coverage that iStopOver continues to get all over the world. As we grow, we look forward to many more satisfied Hosts and Guests.

iStopOver users comments:

“I just want to say thanks for introducing me to your Network. I have a few bookings now and it would not have happened, if it were not listed on iStopOver network. So thanks again for your assistance and advice. Glad I listed on iStopOver.

“Hi. As a host, I just want to say thanks for your great site and the professional way in which you are doing the bookings.
